It's a cool proof of concept but ambition doesn't make something good. Saying it has the classic gameplay isn't even true, it's slow as fuck, relies on 99% of encounters being bullshit GOTCHA moments and monster closets (which were definitely present in older Doom games but nowhere near as prevalent), shooting feels like trash, and the level design's homogeneous nature makes the experience a complete slog. Yeah, that stuff is all really cool but the game plays significantly worse than Doom 1, 2 or 2016 and no amount of tech mastery can change that.
